Akai/Pulsar/MESA
to Akai S5000-Z Series Translation
Translator improves on the stock S-5000 translation by adding bulk translations and more accurately translating certain parameters. Translator also supports translating to stereo .wav files when appropriate (see the miscellaneous topic Stereo Wave Support).
Otherwise, the S-5000 format and the S-1000/3000 one are fairly similar.
Akai-type files implement looping boundaries unusually, Translator interprets these properly (according to the way they really occur in the Akai) and are automatically adjusted upon translation. See Akai Looping Boundary Requirements for more information.
Translator supports translation from MESA (.s3p and .prg), Pulsar (.p+.s, .p+.wav, or .sts+.wav), .ak1/3 files, and Akai S-1000 and S-3000 hard drives and CD-ROM's.
Akai S-5000 series samplers require 15 samples (30 total when stereo) after the loop end marker when a sample is looped. Translator takes this into consideration and adds these samples when appropriate.
Note: The term "S-5000 format" includes the S-6000, Z-4, Z-8, and the MPC4000, which all use virtually the same format. The MPC-4000 .akp file has an added chunk on the .akp file, this is written in the appropriate option under Format Options-Akai is checked. This chunk does not affect the loading of the .akp file into S-5000-type samplers.
