Parameter Tolerance

Certain destination formats, such as SampleCell, EXS-24, Triton, and others, create circumstances where several sample references or multiple keymaps have to share a single set of parameters.

When trying to translate into these formats, and an incoming format has unique parameters for every sample reference, this can make the destination format overly complicated, or even to the point of exceeding it's capability to render the incoming format.

For example, many times a drum kit has a different pan setting for each drum sample. Given a destination where the Pan parameter is shared by an entire keymap, this require multiple keymaps to be created just to facilitate the panning.

Translator has a unique feature to allow you to alleviate the stress of these types of situations, called the Parameter Tolerance setting.

Having Parameter Tolerance as 0% means Zero Tolerance; Translator reacts like it does with other formats - it makes more keymaps and does anything it can to render the incoming format to handle exactly like it sounds.

Using higher values for Parameter Tolerance, Translator will average out the divergent parameters and possibly change and combine them if they are close (per the percentage set). This is yet another sophisticated Translator algorithm that detects how important a certain parameter is and whether it should be combined, given other parameters that may depend on it.

Given a 100% value, this means Total Tolerance and Translator generally combines anything and ignores most differences in parameters, going toward the default setting for the destination format. However, it is still remotely possible to have split keymaps given the right circumstances.

So, given our drum example above, and giving it a 30% Parameter Tolerance, some of the Pans would be averaged if they were close enough to 30% of the parameter range. This can result in a manageable translation with an acceptable sacrifice of some parameters.

There are Parameter Tolerance settings in the SampleCell, Triton, and EXS-24 Option tabs.
